🎉 Good morning Georgia, we can’t wait to see everyone smiling faces. We start at 9 AM today. Tickets are still available at the door. $50 for adults, $20 for teens 12 to 17. Kids are free under 12. So many of our attendees yesterday were massively impressed with the level of expert information and detail shared in breakout sessions and panels. Beekeeping, Soap making demo today and Sourdough class! Hat tip to those who were able to observe the chicken processing session! 👉See you at the Carrollton Ag Center! Who wants to teach Farmstead Forum 2027 Meat curing and/or Hide tanning?! This topic is so vast and so many different opinions on how it should be done. Give me the way they used to do it in the old days without a refrigerator, just saying that might come in handy one day?

I'm about to season this pork belly and let it sit til after the Forum!

Here's my recipe:

1/3cup kosher or Celtic salt is what I have
1/4 apple sauce (I'm subbing pear)
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 Tablespoon cayenne pepper
2 Tablespoon Mesquite or Ancho Chili powder
1/4 cup warm water

I will double this for 1 whole pork belly! Flip it in the sauce every other day, take it out and smoke it to finish curing phase, then freeze it in vac seal bags.

In reading today and as we prepare for our conference, some verses stood out to me to share with you.

Matthew 6:33-34 " But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

The BLB app mentions the word kingdom used in this verse can have a few meanings, one can be the reign of messiah, but it is not to be confused with an actual kingdom, but rather the right or authority to rule over.

Then the word "Therefore" as my pastor Chris Altman always says- whenever you see that word ask yourself, what is it there for? It is a way to connect two sections, in light of the previous thing mentioned, then this logically follows.

What I got from this verse--when you submit to Christ's authority and lordship of your life, and repent from sin, pursue holiness, He will then provide for your basic needs. The previous verses in chapter 6 vs 25-31 talk about food, drink, clothes. BUT, it's because of submitting all things to him. Give it to God, let go! Let go of whatever you are holding onto, and give it to Him.

And the other verse that goes with it
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

It's hard to let go, but it sure helps me sleep alot easier at night, knowing God's got this, I just have to be obedient to his direction and purpose for my life.

Im praying for protection from the enemy, traveling mercies, and abundant blessings on everyone who participates in this years conference, please join me in that prayer as we are 14 days away from the Farmstead Forum!!

Children in the Garden: Growing More Than Plants

Q. I love to garden and it’s been a passion of mine and an outlet for stress most of my life. I have young grandkids who I would love to pass this onto. What are some practical ways I can involve them in gardening? Margaret B.
A. Margaret, I’m so glad you want to pass off your love of gardening to the next generation in your family. These basic skills are indeed being lost among our youth today. Few things bring more joy to a gardener than seeing a child discover the magic of nature. A tiny seed pushed into the soil, watered with eager hands, and later bursting into a flower or vegetable—this is more than gardening. It’s a life lesson in patience, responsibility, and wonder.

Inviting children into the garden doesn’t require a lot of space or special equipment. Even a sunny windowsill or a small corner of the yard can become a child’s outdoor classroom. Start with fast-growing plants like radishes, sunflowers, or beans. These “instant gratification” crops are perfect for keeping kids interested, since they sprout quickly and show visible progress week to week.

Gardening with children is also a way to connect them to the food on their plates. Many parents are amazed to discover that picky eaters become adventurous when they’ve had a hand in growing the harvest. A child who turns up their nose at spinach may gladly try a fresh leaf from “their” garden bed.

Beyond food, gardening teaches valuable life skills. Measuring soil depth, spacing seeds, and tracking plant growth all tie into science and math. Watching butterflies, bees, and ladybugs in the garden sparks curiosity about ecology and the role of beneficial insects. Even the occasional failure—like a plant that doesn’t sprout or a tomato nibbled by wildlife—teaches resilience and problem-solving.
